Marian Pott and Miramar Stock Dog Training
Marian has been training dogs competitively in various performance sports for over 30 years, including obedience, scent tracking, lure coursing, rally, and therapy work. In 1995, she took Badge, a 9-month old German Shepherd pup to an instinct test. His enthusiasm to work, what we call “drive,” and natural ability amazed me. Marian found a training facility near where she lived and began the progressive training of herself as a handler to learn what her dog already knew instinctively. She learned skills from all breed as well as Border Collie trainers and soon entered the world of competition.
Marian trains and competes in various herding venues with her German Shepherds and Border Collies, and handles a variety of herding breeds for clients. She is a licensed herding judge in the AKC and AHBA competition programs for all herding breeds. Marian put the first AKC Herding Excellent sheep (HX) title on a Swedish Vallhund, Pippin. Her work with all herding breeds focuses on training methods which bring out the best in your leadership and your dog’s natural talents. Call or email Marian if you want to have your dog instinct tested. We also welcome dogs which have been in training elsewhere for lessons. If you have any questions or would like more information about the herding program, I welcome inquiries. It’s a lot of fun to see if your dog has natural ability, but I warn you—herding can be addictive!
