Obedience Novice

For dogs six months or older on the first day of class.  

Class is Live Online conducted using Zoom and will require a high-speed internet connection and a computer or mobile device. 

This class is $130 for four sessions in total. Each session is approximately 50 minutes.

Prerequisite:  Graduate of First Steps to Obedience within last two months.

Yay! You and your dog have learned the basics of obedience. Your next phase of obedience training reinforces everything you’ve learned, adding more distractions and challenges for the dog to navigate. In just a few short weeks of consistent practice and positive follow-through, you’ll have a well-mannered companion that is a joy to have around. 

• Heeling with about turns, circle left and right. Where the correct heel position is and how to keep the dog with you.
• Figure 8. Heeling around two posts, it teaches the dog to go fast and slow.
• Recall with Finish. Off-leash recalls are introduced. The dog does a sit-stay while the handler walks across the room, comes when called to sit in front, returns to heel. 
• Stand-Stay. Dog does a stand-stay with the handler facing the dog, the dog is examined.
• Sit- and Down-Stay. One minute at the end of the leash.

Novice Obedience classes incorporate distractions, off-leash work, and more advanced handling. Proper use of positive reinforcement, praise, and treat rewards will assist in achieving the desired behavior. Innovative games are woven into the curriculum to maximize engagement. 

Learn how to incorporate fun exercises into your daily routine to keep your dog walking nicely at your side, sit- or down-stay without moving, and come when called. 

Four classes will give you a great start and on your way to an obedient companion. This class may be repeated as it takes time to perfect.

Bring training treats to class for use as rewards. It’s also a good idea to have some high-reward treats to reward your dog through the session. Small, bite-sized treats are ideal.

• Collar. Bring what you have since different collars work on different dogs. Once I see the dog the first week, I will be able to recommend the correct collar.
• Leash. 6-foot nylon or leather
• Two Traffic Cones or tall objects to walk around

Age: Open to all dogs six months and older.
